SERMON: THE HEART OF GRATITUDE
Anchor Scripture:
📖 “In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” — First Thessalonians 5:18
1. What Is a Heart of Gratitude?
A heart of gratitude is not just saying “thank You.”
It is a lifestyle of appreciation, a spiritual attitude, and a deep recognition of God’s goodness regardless of circumstances.
Gratitude says:
“God is good even when life is not perfect.”
“If He did it before, He will do it again.”
“If He hasn’t done it yet, He is still faithful.”
Gratitude is not based on feelings — it is based on revelation.
2. Gratitude Is God’s Will
The Bible says in First Thessalonians 5:18 that giving thanks is the will of God.
Many believers ask: “Lord, what is Your will for my life?”
One clear answer is: Give thanks.
Gratitude:
Aligns you with God’s will
Positions you for divine favor
Attracts the presence of God
When thanksgiving goes up, glory comes down.
3. Gratitude Provokes Divine Intervention
📖 In Second Chronicles 20, when Jehoshaphat faced battle, he did something unusual — he sent singers ahead of the army to praise God.
As they praised:
God set ambushments against their enemies
They won without fighting
Gratitude is a weapon.
When you thank God in advance, you confuse the enemy.
4. Gratitude Brings Wholeness
📖 In Gospel of Luke 17:11–19, ten lepers were healed, but only one returned to give thanks.
Jesus said to the one who returned: “Your faith has made you whole.”
Ten were healed.
One was made whole.
Gratitude does not just bring healing — it brings completion.
Signs of a Grateful Heart
A person with a heart of gratitude:
1️⃣ Remembers God’s past goodness
David said, “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits.” (Psalms 103:2)
2️⃣ Complains less
Murmuring delays destiny (see Israel in Exodus).
3️⃣ Thanks God in advance
Faith thanks God before the miracle manifests.
4️⃣ Appreciates people
Grateful to God = grateful to others.
-- Enemies of Gratitude
Entitlement (“I deserve it”)
Comparison
Forgetfulness
Pride
Focusing only on what is missing
When you focus on what you lack, you ignore what you have.

I refuse to complain.
I receive the grace to appreciate You daily.
My thanksgiving will open new doors.
Before this month ends, I will testify.

May the Lord give you a heart that is constantly grateful, in Jesus’ name.
